Our Commitment
At LWC Drinks, we recognise that sustainability is not just an obligation, it’s an opportunity to lead by example in building a better future for our employees, our customers, our communities, and the planet.
With 1,800 employees and 18 depots across the UK, our scale gives us both a responsibility and a platform to make a positive impact. That’s why we are committed to embedding sustainable practices across our operations, from how we power our depots to how we deliver our products and support our communities.
Our Sustainability Priorities
Our company-wide sustainability strategy is built around four key pillars:
1. Reducing Our Carbon Footprint
• We are transitioning a percentage of our commercial fleet to HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) and low-emission vehicles, reducing tailpipe emissions.
• Our depots are increasingly powered by solar panels and use LED lighting to cut energy use.
• Electric Material Handling Equipment (MHE) is replacing older diesel-powered machinery.
• We are actively working toward compliance with SECR (Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting) and TCFD (Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures) frameworks.
• Our business is preparing for EcoVadis certification to benchmark and improve our sustainability performance.
2. Minimising Waste and Improving Recycling
• All sites operate comprehensive recycling schemes for packaging, glass, plastics, and paper.
• We are reducing single-use plastics, starting with eliminating plastic water bottles at depots. Employees receive refillable bottles, and visitors are offered canned water as a sustainable alternative.
• Where we use our own packaging, we are switching to more sustainable materials and designing for recyclability.
3. Supporting Our People and Communities
• We support the local communities in which we operate through charitable giving and local partnerships.
• We are committed to employee wellbeing, providing a healthy working environment and promoting engagement in sustainability initiatives across all teams.
• We have introduced Green Ambassadors at all sites to help communicate and implement LWC’s sustainability initiatives throughout our depots.
• Our people are encouraged to contribute ideas that improve sustainability at a local level and to act as champions of change.
4. Supply Chain and Responsible Sourcing
We work with suppliers who share our values and commitment to environmental and social responsibility. This includes:
• Importing products – especially wines – from responsibly sourced and environmentally aware producers.
• Supporting suppliers with sustainability certifications or initiatives aligned with our own goals.
• Building stronger, transparent relationships that help reduce the environmental impact across the full supply chain.
What This Means for Our Employees
Every team member has a role to play in making LWC Drinks a more sustainable business. Whether that’s:
• Making small everyday changes (like using refillable bottles and better recycling practices).
• Contributing ideas for local improvements.
• Helping us meet our reporting and certification goals.
• Or supporting the wider company sustainability initiatives.
We’ll support you with clear guidance, training, and updates on our progress – and celebrate the part you play in this journey.
Our Promise
Sustainability is not a fixed destination – it’s a process of continuous improvement. We will regularly review this policy, report on our progress, and seek feedback from employees, customers, and partners to guide our evolution.
Together, we can raise the bar for sustainability in the drinks wholesale industry – delivering quality, responsibly.
