Every year, rum producers from around the globe wait with bated breath to find out the results of The Rum Masters; an annual rum competition held by renowned spirits magazine and website The Spirits Business.
This year, Old J Spiced Rum has done us proud at the Rum Masters Awards once again! After walking away with the top award last year, when Old J Gold was awarded Master status, this year, two rums from the Old J range have been recognised among the best in the world.
Old J Gold was crafted with real rum drinkers in mind. Created in small batches from our pot still in the British Virgin Islands, from sugar cane grown on nearby riverbanks, the resulting rum is a heady combination of warm spices and vanilla, cut through with lime.
At the 2017 awards, Old J Gold Spiced Rum added a Silver medal to last year’s Master medal, cementing its status as one of the best quality golden rums on the market. But the real star of the show this year was Old J Tiki Fire, which was awarded a gold medal. “It is really strong, but the spices add a subtlety,” mused Kent. Chambers developed an unusual tasting technique for the Gold- winning expression: “I found it really nice to leave it in your mouth until you get used to the strength – then so many flavours open up.”
